Vendor Biography

By trade I have been an OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner since 2000.  My first job was working in an under-served, inner-city, reproductive clinic treating teens and young women.  Once married, I went on to have 5 daughters; I believe this to be a glaring example of how nothing in the Universe is random.  An avid runner in my younger years, an injury eventually forced me to exchange mileage charts for a yoga mat and new mindset.  Yoga quickly became a way of life, and I have been studying under the guidance of a Buddhist Guru since 2014. Being introduced to Ayurveda (a sister science) through Yoga I knew I was being called in a different, yet complementary, direction in Women’s Health.

While Western medicine follows standard protocols to treat illnesses, Ayurveda identifies and celebrates everyone’s unique constitution. Each person is treated individually and thus differently.  In 2017 I became a NAMA certified Ayurvedic Practitioner.  My desire to dive even further into the study of Eastern medicine led me to an Ayurvedic doctor in India and under her guidance I completed advanced studies Ayurvedic Gynecology, Dermatology, Dietetics, Psychiatry, Panchakarma, as well as private mentoring sessions.  Through this collaboration I learned how to combine Eastern and Western diagnostic and treatment methods and apply it to modern living.

When our youngest daughter developed a severe case of eczema, I set out to find the Ayurvedic solution. Eliminating food triggers obliterated most of the rash, but not entirely. In the meantime, using Ayurvedic oils and herbs, I decocted a salve that alleviated the residual redness and irritation.  This was the first skin product I ever produced: One Stop Wonder Balm.  Little did I know a skin care company would come of it.  This was the genesis of Jivana, which in Sanskrit means, “to nourish.”

Although Jivana was started with skin care in mind, it has expanded to become a destination for holistic wellness.  As a lifestyle brand, Jivana educates how we all can achieve optimal health using the power of Yoga, Universal intelligence, and physical and mental balance by way of our senses.
